Since only ONE parent contributes DNA to the offspring there is NO variation between them. So this reduces variety within the species making them prone to being wiped out by only one environmental factor. There is no need for mates but it does make the species vulnerable. Examples of asexual reproduction are budding (yeast), binary fission (bacteria) and mitosis.
